Understanding Prompt Coverage for AI Search
AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini respond to natural language prompts by synthesizing information from web pages. Prompt coverage measures how well your site is positioned to be cited across the full spectrum of queries users type for your niche.
How It Works
We generate 18 realistic prompts spanning different intent types — informational (“what is X”), commercial (“best X”), comparison (“X vs alternatives”), and transactional (“X pricing”). For each prompt, we score every domain on four signal dimensions:
- Topical Relevance (25pts) — Keyword presence in title, headings, and body content relative to the prompt.
- Structural Clarity (25pts) — Heading hierarchy, lists, tables, and scannable content blocks.
- Entity Authority (25pts) — Schema markup, Organization/Person types, FAQ/HowTo presence, external citations.
- Answer Readiness (25pts) — Content depth appropriate to query intent, meta descriptions, and direct-answer formatting.
Why Gap Clusters Matter
Prompt categories reveal systematic weaknesses. If you lose all “best-of” prompts, you need comparison tables and structured review data. If “how-to” prompts are weak, your content needs step-by-step formatting and HowTo schema. Fixing a category lifts multiple prompts at once.
